The Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan is an imaging test that allows doctors and researchers to detect diseases in the body using chemicals, called “tracers” that are injected, swallowed or inhaled. The tracers that are used in the PET scans for the ADNI study do expose a person to a small amount of radiation. If you join the ADNI In-Clinic study the Clinical site staff will provide you more information about PET scans in ADNI and risks of radiation exposure.
